Hall of Fame, or Hall of Shame?

Traveling with food allergies doesn't make someone less interested in breathtaking views, fine dining or adventure.

It can be a little harder to enjoy your hard earned vacation time when forced to continue to explain your food allergy and deal with unprofessional staff who "just don't get it."

Establishments are sometimes overprotective of their liability, refusing to serve you equitably, or sometimes have overly onerous procedures for handling allergies.

This is a place to share experiences of excellence and warn others away from wasting their time on an unaccommodating vacation.

Great for Kids

We traveled here with our children ages 9 and 11. They loved it. I would say that the "museum" part of the experience felt like a waste of time to me. Other than that I was very interested. Butler's provides you with chocolate samples several times throughout the experience, which was a huge highlight for my kids. The entire factory is peanut-free, so it was great for my son's peanut allergy. He is also allergic to walnuts and pecans. After viewing first-hand the production lines, it made us more comfortable eating certain chocolates despite them being made in a shared facility. It was interesting to learn about the cleaning procedures, etc. from a food allergy perspective. I would not recommend this if you are allergic to milk, though. A gluten allergy would be okay.

The experience involves:
1. putting on a hair net and lab coat, which is fun
2. watching a movie about chocolate and the Butler family/business
3. spending time in a "museum" while the other half of the tour gets to look at the factory as folks are working (no photos)
4. getting to view the factory from a viewing area up above while employees are making chocolates and having it all explained to you
5. getting to paint melted white chocolate onto a hollow milk chocolate form, packaging it up official Butler style and take it home.

I think this is a great activity for all children ages 3-12 and their families. There is plenty of free parking, after the tour you do NOT have to walk through a shop, which is nice because then your kids aren't begging you to buy more. Very grateful for that. Great couple hours spent!

Awesome breakfast

We absolutely loved the breakfast buffet. Something for everyone and very accommodating for nut allergies.
